The official volleyball league in Spain where all of the top teams in the country compete is called the Superliga. The Men’s Superliga was founded in 1983 and is formerly known as the Men’s National Championships Honor Division. The Women’s Superliga was founded in 1989 known as the Women’s 1st Division National Volleyball League. Both the Men’s and Women’s leagues are administrated by the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation.

The Spanish league competes throughout Europe under the European Volleyball Confederation with the Men’s Champions League and the Women’s Champions League. Each year the winners of the Superliga play the winners of the Copa (an annual local competition also known as the King's/Queen's Cup), in the Super Cup.

Barcelona is Spain's most cosmopolitan city and one of the Mediterranean's busiest ports. Restaurants, bars and clubs are always packed, as is the seaside in summer. Barcelona has a dynamic and open personality so typical of Mediterranean cities. It is the perfect city to relax in, stroll around and enjoy. Barcelona’s warm, pleasant climate means that the locals spend a lot of time outdoors. The city’s location on the shores of the Mediterranean brings pleasant temperatures, allowing Barcelona to enjoy its 5km of perfectly equipped beaches all year round, and a superb Olympic Marina which is ideal for lovers of water sports.

As you travel around Spain, you will find evidence of a glorious past everywhere. Spain, with its variety of landscapes, cultures and languages, is one of the world's top tourist destinations. Cosmopolitan cities, beach destinations and historical sites make Spain a perfect place for basketball teams to travel to.
